Have you ever stumbled across something incredible when you were least expecting it?
That’s just what happened to Joel and I when he took me to a Matt Wertz concert in Chicago for my birthday.
After an incredible day of ice skating, walking Navy Pier and an unbelievably delicious dinner at a family-run Italian restaurant called Volare, we trekked over to the House of Blues. In atypical fashion for me, we arrived early to the venue and had time to get an excellent spot before the opener even started. We continued chatting when the band took the stage, but the second the lead singer opened his mouth to sing that first note, we immediately stopped talking. By the time he made it through the first verse, we both turned and looked at each other and knew we had just stumbled across something amazing.
Their entire set was phenomenal, and, to be quite honest, when it was their time to finish, I didn’t want to see them go. I really enjoy Matt Wertz’s music, but I didn’t want to see Matt Wertz anymore. I just wanted Tim Warren to sing to me forever.
Listen to this and tell me if you don’t want him to sing to you forever too.
Unfortunately, they don’t tend to come down South to play. However, they will be playing in Wilmington and Isle of Palms the weekend of September 4. If humanly possible, Joel and I will be in attendance and we’d love to take along anyone else who wants to experience musical perfection.
